Runes

Runes are powerful items in Legends of Arthengard that grant players access to magic and combat abilities. Each character can equip and use up to three runes simultaneously in battle.

The History of Runes

When the people fled Arthengard, the knowledge of how to create runes was lost. Therefore, new runes cannot be crafted from scratch and can only be found within dungeons. However, they can be copied if the right materials are provided.

Copying Runes

To copy a rune, you need the original rune as a template, monster loot (which varies depending on the rune), and a mana-charged stone. The latter is created in a separate crafting process using mana crystals and a stone block. The original rune is not consumed during the copying process.

Magic Runes

Magic runes allow for the casting of spells in combat. They exist in seven different elements. Most magic runes scale with the character's Intelligence attribute. Light runes are an exception, as they scale with the Charisma attribute.

Depending on the rune, they deal damage to single or multiple enemies, heal allies, or influence the battlefield through effects like Slow or Confusion. Some runes continue to take effect over several combat rounds without consuming additional mana.

Light runes play a special role, as they encompass both offensive spells and healing magic.

Skill Runes

Skill runes enable physical combat techniques and tactical abilities. Depending on the skill, they scale with different attributes such as Strength, Dexterity, or Intelligence. Some skill runes also require minimum values in multiple attributes simultaneously.

Skill runes cover various combat roles. Tanks can draw the attention of all enemies using provocations like Taunt or Pride. Attackers increase their damage through abilities like Frenzy or Double Attack. Agile fighters use Shadow Step or Stealth to control their presence on the battlefield.

Damage Calculation

The damage of a rune is calculated by multiplying the base damage by the ratio of the character's attribute to the required attribute value.

Example: The Fire Arrow rune has a requirement of 5 Intelligence and a base damage of 10.
