Potions play an important role in the combat system of Legends of Arthengard. Characters automatically use their equipped healing and mana potions as soon as certain thresholds are reached.
Potion Usage During Combat
If a character's HP drops below 50% during combat, they will automatically use a healing potion. If mana falls below 40%, a mana potion is consumed. This check occurs at the beginning of each turn.
Importantly, drinking a potion replaces the attack for that turn. A character cannot use a potion and attack at the same time. Choosing to heal means sacrificing damage output for that round.
Regeneration Between Encounters
After every single encounter, the character automatically regenerates using potions. The thresholds here are higher than during combat: healing potions are used when HP falls below 70%, and mana potions when mana drops below 50%. The character continues drinking potions until the respective threshold is exceeded or no suitable potions remain. This also happens between individual rounds of a dungeon.
Potion Selection
The character selects potions intelligently. The smallest potion that fully covers the missing amount is always chosen first. If no available potion is sufficient to cover the deficit, the largest available potion is used instead. Any healing that exceeds the maximum is wasted and lost.
