Citizenship shows the rank a viewer holds in their city. From Resident up to Duke or Duchess there are several tiers that differ significantly in how they are reached.
The Ranks at a Glance
The ladder gets higher ranking towards the top, the marker color shows whether the rank can be bought with gold.
The starting rank of every new viewer who joins a city, without citizenship yet.
Holds citizenship, granted automatically to real Twitch subscribers or bought with gold.
An additional prestige rank that only real Twitch subscribers can buy with gold.
Granted automatically to moderators of the Twitch channel, or through personal appointment.
The rank of the city ruler themselves, as well as every co ruler linked through a subchannel.
Obtaining Citizenship
There are two ways to get citizenship. Anyone who genuinely subscribes to the city on Twitch receives it automatically, with no action needed. Anyone who is not a subscriber can instead buy it as a Resident with gold, as a monthly subscription with automatic renewal. The gold you pay goes straight into the city treasury.
Besides prestige, citizenship also brings a noticeable crafting benefit: the tool rental fee drops from half to a third of the item value.
Baron and Baroness
The Baron or Baroness title can also be bought with gold, but only by real Twitch subscribers. Bought citizenship alone is not enough. If the real subscription ends in the middle of an already paid period, the rank is lost immediately, even though the subscription would technically still be running. If subscriber status returns in time, the rank kicks back in automatically.
Anyone who is already a Count/Countess or Duke/Duchess cannot buy the Baron title, since that rank sits below and would not replace an existing higher rank.
Count/Countess and Duke/Duchess
These two ranks cannot be bought. Becoming a Count or Countess happens automatically for moderators of the Twitch channel or through personal appointment, while Duke or Duchess is the rank of the city ruler or of a co ruler linked through a subchannel. Anyone who already holds one of these ranks only sees a note in Citizenship stating that there is nothing higher left to buy.
Counts and countesses help run the city. The duke or duchess decides in the Streamer Dashboard what each of them may do: town hall, building, exploring and occupying, trade caravans, city defense and locking dungeons are allowed from the start, buying city boosts is not.
Subscription and Cancellation
Both citizenship and the Baron title run as a monthly subscription with automatic renewal, as long as enough gold is available and you are present in that city. Cancelling only turns off automatic renewal, the rank remains until the end of the already paid period. There is no refund.
