Scrolls are magical single-use items in Legends of Arthengard that grant players access to magic and combat skills. Unlike Runes, scrolls are consumed after a single use in combat, but they are significantly cheaper to craft. Each character can equip up to three scrolls or runes simultaneously, as both item types share the same equipment slots.
The History of Scrolls
When the people fled from Arthengard, the knowledge of how to create Runes was lost. Since Runes can no longer be newly created, the inhabitants of Arthengard found a way to transfer the power of a Rune onto magical paper. The Rune serves as a kind of magical stamp, imprinting its spell onto the scroll.
Crafting Scrolls
To craft a scroll, you need a Rune as a template, Mana Crystals, and Mana-infused paper. Mana-infused paper is produced in a separate crafting process using Mana Grass. The Rune is not consumed during the process and can be used as a template as many times as desired.
Magic Scrolls
Magic scrolls allow the casting of spells in combat. They exist in seven different elements. Most magic scrolls scale with the character's Intelligence attribute. An exception is Light scrolls, which scale with the Charisma attribute.
Depending on the scroll, they deal damage to single or multiple enemies, heal allies, or influence the battle through effects such as Slow or Confusion. Some scrolls continue to take effect over several combat rounds without consuming additional Mana.
Light scrolls play a special role, as they include healing spells alongside offensive magic. Besides Light Runes, they are the only way to restore HP through magic during combat.
Skill Scrolls
Skill scrolls enable physical combat techniques and tactical abilities. Depending on the skill, they scale with different attributes such as Strength, Agility, or Intelligence. Some skill scrolls also require minimum values in multiple attributes simultaneously.
- Tanks can draw the attention of all enemies with provocations like Taunt or Pride.
- Attackers increase their damage through abilities like Frenzy or Double Attack.
- Agile fighters use Shadowstep or Stealth to control their presence on the battlefield.
Damage Calculation
The damage of a scroll is calculated identically to Runes: the base damage multiplied by the ratio of the character's attribute to the required attribute.
Example: The Fire Arrow scroll has a requirement of 5 Intelligence and a base damage of 10.
Scrolls vs. Runes
Scrolls offer the same spells and abilities as their Rune counterparts with identical stats and effects. The main difference lies in the duration of use and the crafting costs. While Runes are permanent and can be reused indefinitely, scrolls are consumed after a single use. In exchange, they are much cheaper to produce, making them excellent for sharing spells and skills with other players in the city early on and selling them on the marketplace.
