Legends of Arthengard is a cooperative Idle-MMORPG that brings Twitch streamers and their communities together in a shared, persistent game world. Streamers take control of a city in the world of Arthengard, and their viewers become citizens who actively shape the city's fate. Resource gathering, city building, and dungeon raids are genuine community projects: nothing happens automatically, everything requires real cooperation.
The game combines classic MMORPG mechanics with idle gameplay and deep Twitch integration. A dedicated bot relays chat commands directly into the game, defense events take place live on stream and engage the entire audience, even without a registered game account. Legends of Arthengard is free to play, without pay-to-win, and currently in Early Access for iOS, Android, and the website. Developed by Patrik Witzke (Insane Studios).
"This game doesn't just contain the little energy I have left, my heart and soul, and my lifetime. It is my reason to keep fighting through hell on earth with ME/CFS."Patrik Witzke, developer of Legends of Arthengard
Legends of Arthengard is a cooperative Idle-MMORPG built entirely around the Twitch community. Streamers become rulers of a city in the world of Arthengard, and their viewers step into the game as citizens. The game runs as its own layer alongside the normal stream, turning every channel into a living MMORPG world.
The heart of the game is genuine cooperation: resources do not arise automatically but must be earned by real players. Buildings are constructed, territories explored, and dungeons conquered together, all as an interplay between streamer and community.
Legends of Arthengard is free to play and accessible via one-click Twitch login, both in the native app for iOS and Android and directly through the website. The dedicated Twitch bot relays chat commands directly into the game.

Forget multiple-choice dialogs! You have real conversations with NPCs who respond like living people. Whether you want to convince a merchant, threaten a guard, or flatter a mystical seer, just write what you think. Completely free text input enables conversations with individual NPCs who have their own personalities and quirks β every conversation becomes a unique experience with real consequences.
As a core philosophy, fair and transparent monetization is a top priority. All monetization features are developed in close exchange with the community and designed to never provide an unfair advantage. Instead, the goal is to develop creative approaches that enrich the gaming experience. Small, exclusive bonuses for Twitch subscribers are also planned.

At the heart of Legends of Arthengard lies a persistent city populated entirely by real players. Each player owns exactly one character and joins the city through the Twitch chat of a participating streamer. The game world runs around the clock in real time, regardless of whether anyone is actively playing. Together, the inhabitants gather resources, erect buildings, craft equipment, and explore new territories. As the community grows, so does the city. When activity wanes, it comes under pressure.
Daily gameplay revolves around time-based jobs, crafting, city orders, and quests. Players choose an activity that their character then performs automatically, true to the spirit of classic idle games. At the same time, managing the city requires real coordination: resources must be balanced, dungeons regularly checked, and threats repelled. The game world consists of tiles that must be explored and occupied to unlock new resource sources and dungeons.
Dungeons are a central component of the game world. Monsters multiply there continuously and provide important materials for crafting recipes. If stocks are ignored for too long, the city's threat level rises. Once it exceeds a critical threshold, a defense battle breaks out that takes place live on stream. In these moments the entire chat community can intervene via command, even without a registered game account. If the city loses the battle, supplies are destroyed and buildings damaged.
The quest system of Legends of Arthengard goes beyond classic assignments. Personal quests can be actively accepted and renegotiated via attribute checks. If the check fails, an LLM-powered dialog interaction remains as a second chance. City-wide event quests go even further: here, a language model takes on the role of a game master. Players receive hints and clues and can submit solution approaches via free text input. If the correct solution is recognized, the system automatically triggers predefined game mechanics.
Twitch is more than just a platform for Legends of Arthengard. It is the primary entry point, coordination channel, and the setting for the most exciting moments. A bot keeps the community informed about completed jobs and important events. During defense events in particular, a direct and thrilling connection between the game world and the live audience is created.
Legends of Arthengard does not pursue a classic endgame. Instead, collective progress, social dynamics, and the long-term development of a vibrant community take center stage. Characters grow through activities and an adventurer ranking system. Players can switch cities and join new communities. The result is a persistent, text-based world where real communities grow together and write history.
* The AI-powered quest interaction β free-form dialogs with NPCs and the game-master mode for city-wide event quests β is currently postponed and not yet available in the game (see roadmap, "AI Quest Update").
Behind Legends of Arthengard is Patrik, a solo developer realizing the project under extraordinary circumstances. Patrik lives with ME/CFS, a chronic illness that severely limits physical and cognitive capacity and to this day receives far too little public recognition. He consciously chooses to be open about it, because ME/CFS is part of his life and he does not hide that part.
ME/CFS requires consistent energy management. Patrik uses every available time window his body allows to work on the code. Development takes place in short, structured phases, adapted to the daily capacity limits of the illness. That a complete game is still being built is the result of focus, discipline, and the right use of modern tools.
Patrik brings a background as a marketing freelancer. This experience shapes his approach: resource-efficient, targeted, and with a clear eye for what truly matters. He develops software he himself can and wants to play. The focus on a game that runs quietly in the background and requires no constant attention is not a theoretical design decision. It emerged from his own lived reality.
Legends of Arthengard is not meant to grow over the heads of its players. Decisions about further development and monetization are communicated openly and conceived together with the growing community. This stance has been a fixed part of the project philosophy from the very beginning.
Legends of Arthengard is being developed with the support of AI tools. This is a conscious decision that Patrik communicates openly. For him, AI is not a shortcut but a tool that enables him to remain productive despite the cognitive limitations caused by ME/CFS. While the AI handles repetitive tasks, syntax work, and error-prone details, he focuses on the overarching logic, game mechanics, and the content design of the project.
AI is used at several points in the development process: in code support, in writing and revising texts, and in creating graphics for the current development stage. The latter is expressly intended as a temporary solution. All AI-generated graphics are intended to be replaced long-term by works from artists. The goal is to make genuine creative work visible and enable fair compensation for artistic work as soon as the project's development allows.
The use of AI in game development is a widely discussed topic. Patrik does not want to deliver hidden facts on the matter but rather take a clear stance: AI is for him a means of participation that makes it possible at all for him to realize this project as an individual with a chronic illness. This context is part of the story of Legends of Arthengard and belongs to it.
